About The Race

As the sun set on the Walt Disney World® Resort on Saturday, October 1, almost 10,000 runners made their way to the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex ready for the perfect runner's night out. At 10 p.m. over 8200 individual half marathoners and 1000 two-person half marathon relay teams took off in search of their prize – the Epcot® International Food and Wine Festival finish line party!
The journey took runners on a half marathon course, leaving ESPN Wide World of Sports and heading first towards Disney's Animal Kingdom® Park. Inside the park, runners past icons including the Tree of Life and Expedition Everest™, the first leg of the relay teams made the exchange to the second team member who joined the individual runners onwards to Disney's Hollywood Studios™. With sights like The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ and Lights, Motor, Action! keeping them entertained, runners soon found themselves on the home stretch of the race. Leaving the Hollywood movie sets behind, runners enjoyed the moonlit waterfront scene passing through Disney's Yacht and Beach Club Resorts. With one last push, runners continued on to the front of Epcot® where they crossed the finish line.
For the second consecutive year, the overall male winner was Anton Van Zyl from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, who finished in 1:13:14. The overall female winner was Carrie Majeranowski from Cocoa Beach, FL with a time of 1:26:10. The fastest relay team, made up of Reilly Friedman and Brian Friedman, completed the 13.1 miles in 1:30:13.
Once inside the gates the party officially began for the runners as they were greeted with a sampling of Epcot® International Food and Wine Festival fare and attractions in Future World. With music, entertainment and a food and wine tour of 26 countries, the celebration continued until the early hours of Sunday morning. As exhilaration gave way to happy exhaustion, runners departed the Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon knowing that the one thing that makes for a great runner's night out had been accomplished - a good time was had by all.
